Project One: Reflection
When the discovery draft was first assigned my heart sunk, I knew I had a long road ahead of me because I had absolutely no idea what I was going to write. Not very long after that I began to feel a sense of panic arise because that’s when I realized I didn’t understand the topic or really the class in general. “Genre” was, and still slightly is, the most confusing word I had ever come across in any of my academic classes. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to write this paper unless I had a strong understanding of genre and how to incorporate the more academic writing involved with genres and my personal narrative. I got through my draft and it didn’t say anything. It was incredibly frustrating for me to not be able to get my point across and display my exigence in a clear, cohesive, and concise manner. After finishing my second draft I still was not pleased with what it was saying and I was aggravated with how difficult combining those two styles was for me. The more I got into the second draft the better I felt about what I was writing but I still believe I could write a better paper than the one I turned in. As challenging as writing this paper was for me, the hardest part has been coming to terms with the fact that not everything will come to me as easily as it did in high school.
